Occasion
The district of Aachen-Brand is located in the south-east of the city and, with over 17,000 inhabitants, is the most populous sub-district of the city of Aachen. Due to the designation of new residential and commercial areas, the district has already grown considerably in recent decades and will continue to grow in the future. The urban development has led and continues to lead to a sharp increase in traffic congestion and the associated traffic noise. In addition, the high traffic density and increasing traffic pressure have a negative impact on road safety in Brand and lead to conflicts between the various road users. In particular, the high proportion of car and truck traffic, the restrictions on sidewalks and visibility, the lack of cycling facilities and narrow road spaces should be mentioned here. It is therefore particularly important to protect the most vulnerable road users, such as children/young people and the elderly, as well as pedestrians and cyclists, without excluding others.
The district politicians therefore called on the administration to put out a call for tenders to draw up a district mobility concept to support the traffic turnaround in Aachen-Brand.
Task definition
A mobility concept for the Aachen-Brand district is to be developed based on the city-wide planning for the VEP and taking into account the Brand framework planning. A highly participatory process is planned. The planning basis will include extensive workshops as well as public walks and bike tours with citizens. The participation of young people is explicitly planned in order to involve Aachen-Brand's young population in the process. This is to take the form of a youth conference involving schools and youth facilities in Brand. The results of the mobility concept will form the framework for the further development of the district's transport system and will be incorporated into the City of Aachen's ongoing transport development planning.
