Bismarckstraße: The second construction phase begins on June 11
Following the completion of the first construction phase of Bismarckstraße from Schlossstraße to Neumarkt, work on the second construction phase is expected to begin on June 11. Contrary to previous publications, the construction work will follow the course of the road as far as Drimbornstraße. Work will be carried out in three subsections. Work will start on the section from Triebelsstraße to Viktoriaallee. According to the schedule, the work in the first sub-section will take around five months.
During the construction work, the area will be fully closed to motor vehicles and bicycles. The footpaths will remain passable for pedestrians, but will not be open to bicycle traffic.
From June 11, for the duration of the entire second construction phase, bicycle traffic will be diverted in both directions via Frankenberger Straße, Schenkendorfstraße and Turpinstraße at Neumarkt.
Changes to Traffic Flow on
ViktoriaalleeDue to construction work on the section between Triebelsstraße and Viktoriaallee, traffic patterns on Viktoriaallee between Oppenhoffallee and Frankenberger Straße will change significantly.
The outbound lane of Viktoriaallee will be closed to through traffic by motor vehicles and buses. Only residents can enter and exit Viktoriaallee from Oppenhoffallee or Frankenberger Straße up to the start of the construction site.
The one-way traffic regulation on the part of Viktoriaallee leading into the city will be reversed for the next few months. Vehicles and buses traveling out of town will be shifted to this side with the odd-numbered houses. At Frankenberger Straße, all vehicles and buses will return to their usual route in the direction of Herz-Jesu-Kirche and Erzbergerallee.
The Viktoriaallee bus stop will be relocated to the turned one-way street and can be reached via the central island. At the junction of Oppenhoffallee and Viktoriaallee, some parking spaces at the side of the road will be removed over the next few months so that buses, trucks and other vehicles can easily get around the corner.
Motor vehicles and buses coming into the city from Erzbergerallee will be diverted via Turpin-, Drimborn- and Bismarckstraße to Oppenhoffallee.
What happens next?
Once the construction phase between Triebelsstraße and Viktoriaallee (construction phase 2.1), the sections from Viktoriaallee to the corner of Drimbornstraße (BA 2.2) will follow, and later Drimbornstraße, Beverstraße, and Schenkendorfstraße (BA 2.3). Contrary to what was announced in a brochure and in the media in the spring of 2025, the relevant department has agreed with the construction company on a revised order for the implementation of the subsections.
The construction work on Bismarckstrasse was decided in 2024, commissioned in 2025 and is scheduled for completion in summer 2027.
