Moving the scenery in the old town
Translocations in Aachen's old town were a means of reconstruction after the Second World War. Both entire façades and individual façade elements were reused in a different location. The focus here was on the urban appearance, which was intended to retain its historical appearance. Façades and components from the rubble or from buildings that were to make way for the university extension and urban development plans were first stored in the municipal building yard and used later. More rarely, entire architectural structures were relocated, such as the two Couven pavilions or the congress monument in the Stadtgarten at the beginning of the 20th century.

The building yard served as storage for the various façade elements that were used for translocation.
