Wilhelmstraße: City Provides Information on Planning Ideas

The sewer lines and utility lines on Wilhelmstraße need to be renovated because some of them are already very old. For this reason, Regionetz, as the network operator, is planning extensive renovation work on Wilhelmstraße, which is expected to begin in the fall of 2027.

Following this, the City of Aachen intends to use the restoration of Wilhelmstraße—once the sewer and utility line work is complete—as an opportunity to adapt the street layout to current needs. Two questions must be answered in any case: How is the street used today, and what do the official regulations require? The redesign should take all modes of traffic into account and restore Wilhelmstraße’s former tree-lined avenue.

The City of Aachen will present its current planning ideas at a public forum on Tuesday, November 10, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the lecture hall of the Suermondt-Ludwig Museum, Wilhelmstraße 18. This was decided by the Mitte District Council and the Mobility Committee in September 2026.

The planning documents are now available at the following website: www.aachen.de/wilhelmstrasse. They will also be on display until November 24, 2026, at the Marschiertor administrative building, Lagerhausstraße 20. The building is open during the following hours: Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Interested parties can submit their suggestions, comments, and ideas to the relevant administrative department during the public dialogue event and through November 24, 2026, via the “Beteiligung NRW” portal linked on the website or, alternatively, by placing them in the drop box in the lobby of the Marschiertor administrative building.
