Public television broadcasts in outdoor catering areas during the 2026 FIFA World Cup
Experience has shown that there is widespread interest among the population in watching the World Cup matches together.
The Ministry of the Environment, Agriculture, Nature Conservation and Consumer Protection of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MULNV NRW) has issued a decree suggesting that generous exceptions be made for the broadcasting of soccer matches during the 2026 World Cup.
The Department of Safety and Order of the City of Aachen would like to follow this suggestion, as it did for the last European and World Cups. To this end, our colleagues would like to point out the following rules for soccer broadcasts in outdoor catering areas:
All broadcasts on smaller screens or television sets, whether private or in outdoor catering areas, are essentially tolerated if
- the sound is transmitted exclusively through the TV set's own speakers or speakers of a comparable volume,
- the sound is switched off no later than 20 minutes after the end of the game,
- no other noisy devices such as vuvuzelas, drums, fanfares or similar are used and
- the person responsible in each case urges his/her guests to be more considerate of neighbors and residents (this applies to the background noise caused by the guests present).
After midnight, corresponding broadcasts of the games must be continued indoors. The person responsible must ensure compliance with these regulations.
