Election committee determines: This is the result of the city council election
At its meeting on Thursday, September 18, the Election Committee of the City of Aachen unanimously determined the results for the Aachen City Council. The committee also unanimously approved the election results for the future composition of the city's seven district councils and the Integration Council.
This means that the directly elected councillors from the 33 electoral districts have been determined, as have the 33 other councillors who will join the council via the reserve lists of their respective parties. A total of 108,358 valid votes were cast for the city council election, according to election officer Dr. Markus Kremer at the committee meeting.
The Aachen City Council is the central representative body for all citizens, makes the main decisions on all important matters concerning the city and can issue statutes - i.e. city law. The council has a total of 67 elected representatives: 66 councillors plus the Lord Mayor.
As none of the candidates in the election for the office of Lord Mayor and City Councillor received more than half of the votes, there will be another election on Sunday, September 28, the run-off election. The election committee had already determined this at a meeting last Monday. The run-off election between the two candidates will take place on Sunday, September 28 between 8 am and 6 pm.
On-site voting already possible from September 19
Citizens who are not in Aachen on election day can now vote directly on site at the electoral office at Blücherplatz 43 or at their respective district offices from September 19 until September 26. The electoral office will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, September 19, with extended opening hours from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. from September 22 to 26, and even from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays. The district offices can also be reached by voters during their regular opening hours from September 19 to 26.
