The first municipal fountains are sent into "hibernation"
As every year in the fall, Aachen's fountains will be sent into "hibernation" in the coming weeks. First of all, the fountains in Aachen's old town, which are fed by stream water, will stop flowing. The city and Regionetz are working hand in hand to achieve this. The fountain service team from the city's building management department will then take care of the other systems one by one. By the end of November, all other fountains fed by mains water will have been decommissioned, starting from the outer areas and extending into the city center. The water fountains at Europaplatz will be the last to be switched off in around four weeks' time this year. The hibernation of the city's fountains traditionally ends at Easter.
The facilities at the Elisengarten (Elisenbrunnen and Kreislauf des Geldes) and the Neues Kurhaus operate completely independently of frosty temperatures. These fountains are supplied with warm thermal water and can therefore also be operated during the winter months. In total, building management currently operates around 60 municipal water features.
