Schildstraße: City has started rebuilding the roadway and sidewalks

Regionetz has completed its construction work on the pipeline network in Schildstraße and "Schildplatz". Immediately afterwards, the city has been having the surfaces of the street and the square completely renewed since this week. The redesign is expected to last until the end of January 2026.

On the northern side of Schildstrasse, along the houses with odd numbers, a sidewalk with a continuous width of 2.20 meters will be built. It will become part of the premium footpath between the city center and Frankenberger Park. On the opposite southern side of the street, the footpath will be around 1.30 meters wide. The carriageway itself will be at least 3.80 meters wide along the entire length of Schildstrasse. Tree beds will be created in two places and trees will be planted later. In addition, two parking areas will be created that can be used as loading zones for a limited period of time. Parking spaces for bicycles will be created in the street.

The "Schildplatz" is the transition from Harscampstrasse to Schildstrasse and Schützenstrasse in both directions. It is also being fundamentally redesigned. It will have two important functions. Firstly, the priority cycle route from the city center to Brand and Eilendorf will be routed via it.

On the other hand, it should also be easy and safe to use for pedestrians. The paving on the square will be designed in such a way that the areas for pedestrians and cyclists are clearly distinguishable from each other. A new tree will be planted. A spacious circular bench will be built around it.
