Regionetz begins expanding the district heating network in the Forst district at the end of October. The new district heating route between Adenauerallee and Sittarder Straße will connect existing island networks and connect further areas of the city to the district heating infrastructure.

Construction work will begin in the week after the fall vacations, probably on Monday, October 27. The work will extend over a route of around 1.3 kilometers and is expected to take 38 months, i.e. until the end of 2028.

The work will be carried out in sections with full road closures to ensure safety on the construction site. Through traffic will be widely diverted and access for the fire and rescue services will be possible at all times.

Construction phase 1: Adenauerallee to Goldberg (end of 2025 to mid-2026)

The first section begins at the corner of Lintertstraße and Adenauerallee. A new water transport pipeline will first be laid here to create space for the future district heating route.

At the same time, Regionetz is renewing house connections, electricity and low-voltage lines as well as lighting cables. During the same period, the company Lube & Krings is converting the cycle ramp on Rosenweg into a barrier-free route for cyclists on behalf of the City of Aachen.

Construction phase 2: Goldberg to Schopenhauerstraße (2026 to the end of 2027)

Once the work on the bicycle ramp has been completed, the construction crew will continue its work from Goldberg Street in the direction of Schopenhauer Street.

In addition to the district heating pipeline, water pipes, medium-voltage lines, street lighting and other lines will also be laid and modernized in this area. This is intended to avoid subsequent interventions.

Construction phase 3: Drei-Rosen-Straße to Adenauerallee/Lintertstraße (2027 to the end of 2028)

The third construction phase begins on Drei-Rosen-Straße at the existing heating plant. From there, the new route leads via Thiensweg and Adenauerallee to Lintertstraße.

The work is being carried out in close coordination with Straßen.NRW, as the neighboring tunnel is affected. The district heating pipeline will be laid in such a way that it can remain in place permanently.

The construction work is being carried out by the company Lube & Krings on behalf of Regionetz GmbH. During the entire construction period, the security of supply for gas, electricity, water and telephony will be guaranteed. Our aim is to keep disruption to residents and traffic as low as possible," explains Michael Hüsselmann, the responsible site manager at Regionetz. "We are bundling work so that we don't have to build in the same place several times."
