Halloween: an eventful night for the public order office

The colleagues from the Security and Order Department can look back on an eventful Halloween night. The public order and security service (OSD) as well as supporting forces from the enforcement and investigation service were out and about in the city until the early hours of the morning. The streets and squares in the city, especially Pontstrasse, were well filled and the outdoor restaurants were unusually busy due to the mild weather.

In addition to checks under the Aachen street ordinance, the colleagues also carried out more youth protection checks, non-smoker protection checks and checks under the State Immission Control Act. In addition, they also carried out checks on businesses on an ad hoc basis and on the basis of reports via the hotline of the Security and Order Department. The colleagues seized alcohol, cigarettes and vapes as part of the youth protection checks. A large number of disturbances of the peace, alcohol and tobacco consumption in playgrounds and the use of cannabis had to be punished as part of regulatory measures. As part of the business inspections, the OSD discovered illegal gambling machines, building law violations and possession of drugs in one business. The colleagues called in the police for further action. In addition, the colleagues again punished many violations of the Shop Opening Act and violations of the special use permits for commercial enterprises issued by the City of Aachen.

Late at night, the OSD was called to a supposedly private party in the course of a disturbance. On site, however, the situation turned out to be a commercial event with over 300 guests. The organizers did not have the necessary permits. Due to the number of people on site, the OSD officers had considerable concerns about safety, so they broke up the event with the participation of almost all the forces on duty and despite considerable objections from the organizers. Due to the lack of a permit, the organizers can expect to face regulatory proceedings afterwards. The City of Aachen will file a criminal complaint against one guest at the event for resisting the law enforcement officers.
