From apart to together: Aachen's city center stakeholders pull together
It was more than just another exchange: the 9th Aachen Location Dialogue with Lord Mayor Sibylle Keupen was a convincing example of partnership-based cooperation between administration, politics and stakeholders from the retail and hospitality sectors. What was still characterized by scepticism and distance a few years ago has developed into a trusting, open and goal-oriented cooperation. The focus was on ongoing measures to increase attractiveness, including at Theaterplatz, Holzgraben and Dahmengraben, as well as new promotional offers such as the inner city fund or the Oecher Perlen Fund.
In a lively atmosphere, not only numerous successfully implemented measures such as the launch of the Feierabendmarkt or the creative interim use of vacant stores as part of the "Ladenliebe" program were praised. The participants also took the opportunity to address polarizing topics such as the planned introduction of a bed tax or the development of guidelines for outdoor catering, which could be discussed at eye level. The focus was on developing solutions together - objectively and transparently.
This dynamic was palpable in the auditorium: applause for successful implementations, committed contributions and a great willingness to take responsibility. It has been shown that the administration, politicians and urban society can work very well side by side through regular exchange. Because the common goal is clear for everyone involved: the sustainable development of Aachen's city center.
"The 9th Location Dialogue impressively demonstrated how much cooperation has changed in our city: From coexistence to active cooperation. I am particularly pleased that we were not only able to celebrate successes - such as the new revitalization through projects like 'Ladenliebe' or the Feierabendmarkt - but that difficult topics were also discussed openly and constructively. This new quality of dialog is a strong foundation for the future of our city center," says Pia Dödtmann, Head of Business Development, Wirtschaftsförderung Aachen.
