Local elections 2025: Election committee decides unanimously
On Friday, July 11, the Election Committee of the City of Aachen unanimously decided to approve all election proposals for the 33 electoral districts of the City of Aachen and the election of the district councils for the local elections on Sunday, September 14.
Sibylle Keupen (Alliance90/The Greens), Dr. Michael Ziemons (CDU), Michael Servos (SPD), Ellen Rita Begolli (DIE LINKE), Xenia Mareike Lehmann (Die PARTEI), Jörg Polzin (individual candidate), Margarete Ute Haupts (UWG Aachen), Alexandra Karoline Radermacher (Volt) and Kirill Karasev (BSW) are running for the office of Lord Mayor.
The FDP's election proposal for the mayoral candidate Wulf Papst was rejected, as the election management found deficiencies in the preliminary examination of the constitutional meeting on June 3, 2025.
For the same reasons, the election committee also rejected the nominations submitted for the 40 candidates on the FDP's reserve list.
The nominations for the reserve lists of the other parties comply with the provisions of the Local Elections Act and the Local Elections Regulations and were therefore approved.
Detailed information and all approved election proposals can be found in the City of Aachen's council information system at https://ratsinfo.aachen.de/public/to010?SILFDNR=1000407.
