Current

On October 9, a construction site information event for citizens took place in the auditorium of the Inda-Gymnasium. You can access the presentation here .

The online citizen information on the "Napoleonsberg" road renewal from Unter den Weiden to Korneliusmarkt and the barrier-free conversion of the Kornelimünster bus stop took place from 01.07 - 31.07.2024.

Occasion and goal

The Kornelimünster district council has commissioned the administration to find a structural solution for the non-accessible condition of the sidewalk on Napoleonsberg, house no. 192. In addition, the Napoleonsberg road from "Unter den Weiden" to Korneliusmarkt is in poor condition. The Aachen municipal works department is planning to renovate the second section of the gravity wall along the Inde from the pedestrian traffic lights to Korneliusmarkt. In addition, the water transport pipeline running along the Napoleonsberg is to be renewed. This pipeline has been in operation for over 100 years.

Planning

The plan is for the current bus stop bay to be converted into a barrier-free lane stop and moved towards the pedestrian priority traffic lights. In order to prevent unauthorized and dangerous passing of buses stopping there, the traffic lights will be switched to red when a bus approaches the stop. Otherwise, the traffic lights in Kornelimünster should always be switched so that buses on the Napoleonsberg do not have to stop in front of a traffic light.
By removing the bus stop bay, a lot of space is gained for a new footpath and the cross slope of the footpath can be reduced to a maximum of 2.0% in terms of accessibility in accordance with the DIN standard. In the new location, the bus stop will also be restored to its full length of 20 meters so that all doors are barrier-free even for articulated buses. Access to the garages of the adjacent residential buildings and the street "Unter den Weiden" will remain barrier-free and the garages can be accessed without maneuvering.

Section of site plan

In the interests of road safety and accessibility, it is planned to replace the current round kerb along the Napoleonsberg road with a threshold stone. The area between the new sidewalk and the buildings will remain level and will be restored using paving.
Before the road construction begins, the water transport pipeline will be renewed and Aachener Stadtbetrieb will renovate the second section of the retaining wall on the Inde. Due to the cramped conditions, all measures will be carried out with full road closures and overlapping schedules. This approach allows synergies to be exploited and leads to an overall reduction in construction time. As a result, the impact on local residents can be kept to a minimum despite the considerable traffic restrictions.
