Burtscheid mobility concept

Occasion

In addition to the motion submitted by the CDU, SPD and Green parties on 29.01.2008 to "Strengthen the Burtscheid residential and supply center", the administration was commissioned by the Transport Committee at its meeting on 24.04.2008 and the Aachen-Mitte district council at its meeting on 02.04.2008 to draw up an overall traffic concept for the Burtscheid area.

This commission was prompted by several complaints and discussions in the committees about streets in the Burtscheid district, including Eupener Straße, Im Gillesbachtal, Von-Pastor-Straße, Branderhofer Weg, Bismarckstraße, Oppenhoffallee, Karl-Marx-Allee and Kalverbenden. This involved traffic congestion, speeding, pedestrian safety, suggestions for public transport, school route safety and bicycle traffic. This data is supplemented by the area of road safety, with statements on speed measurements and accidents as well as extracts from the noise register.

Procedure

The administration first collected, recorded and analyzed data on the topics described above. For the area to be examined, extracts from the land use plan and the road network as well as the traffic loads, the specified speeds and traffic routing were entered in plans. Further statements were made about the pedestrian network, parking facilities, local public transport and bicycle traffic. This analysis can be found in Part 1 (PDF document, approx. 16 MB) of the interim results.

In "Part 2 Planning proposals", the administration makes a number of planning proposals relating to the road network, specified speeds and traffic routing, the pedestrian network, stationary traffic, local public transport and cycling. These planning proposals can be found in Part 2 (PDF document, approx. 13 MB).

If you have any questions or suggestions about these documents or about planning in general, please contact Mr. Müller in the city's Department of Urban Development and Traffic Facilities on the right.

Further measures can be included in the Burtscheid traffic concept following coordination within the administration, information of the political bodies, an information event for citizens and subsequent further political consultations, and will be incorporated into the framework planning for "Strengthening the Burtscheid residential and supply center".

Citizen information

With the current interim status, the City of Aachen has carried out a comprehensive analysis of various aspects of the traffic situation in Aachen. A first step towards planning has also been taken by developing initial proposals. However, this interim status is not a finished product, but a step in the planning process. Informing citizens early on in the process is an integral part of this planning. Citizens' comments and suggestions are welcome! These opinions will be taken into account in the further process and checked for their usefulness and feasibility.
