Where innovation shines

Aachen is a laboratory for the future. The entire city ticks to the rhythm of universities and research. The four universities, the university hospital and numerous institutes stand for scientific creativity, technological innovation and social progress. The economy also benefits from this. Universities and companies work closely together on the RWTH Aachen Campus. An international hot spot for start-ups, research and teaching has been created there - close to industry and interdisciplinary.

Knowledge-based, economic activity - that is the hallmark of the high-tech region of Aachen. It creates a climate throughout the Euregio that encourages development and discovery.

Speaking of climate: citizens, business, politics and administration have set out together to make the city fit for the grandchildren, for example with a revitalized city centre. Aachen wants to become climate-neutral by 2030 with the heat and mobility transition. To this end, it is promoting the expansion of the cycle path network and climate-friendly behavior, building new charging stations for electric cars and introducing a 30 km/h speed limit in the city centre.

Aachen signed the "Circular Cities Declaration", thus committing itself to a resource-conserving circular economy, and is also one of 100 "Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030" selected by the EU Commission.

Aachen is undergoing change - also in terms of participation, education and social justice. In the Citizens' Council, the only one of its kind in Germany, the people of Aachen get involved in important issues in their city. Even the youngest are involved in the Children's Forum.

Where innovation shines

Aachen is a future laboratory. The whole city ticks to the rhythm of universities and research. The RWTH Aachen University, a "University of Excellence" in research and teaching, the FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences, the Uniklinik RWTH Aachen, the Jülich Research Centre, along with Fraunhofer, Leibniz and Helmholtz institutes all stand for scientific creativity, technological innovation and social progress.

And this also benefits Aachen's economy. Universities and businesses work in close collaboration, in forums and networks, in spin-offs and start-ups. More than every tenth job holder in the research and development sector works in the district of Aachen.

With the RWTH Aachen Campus, a completely new quarter of the city has been evolving since 2010, an international hot spot for research, development and teaching - with close ties to industry and a truly interdisciplinary approach. A good 360 companies have already set up store here.

Knowledge-based economic activity - that's the hallmark of the high-tech region Aachen. It creates a climate throughout the Euregio that inspires enthusiasm for discoveries, inventions and developments of international renown.

No wonder, then, that forward-thinking companies like FEV, Ford, Grünenthal, Philips, Saint-Gobain Glass or e.Go Mobile are located here. And Aachen has a sweet side, too, deliciously represented by the world-famous products of the companies Lambertz, Lindt and Zentis.
