Regionetz is expanding the district heating network on Klappergasse between Jakobstraße and Rennbahn, as well as near Bendelstraße 6. Work is expected to begin on Monday, September 14, 2026, and will take about six months. Afterward, the City of Aachen will carry out a comprehensive redesign of Klappergasse and Rennbahn.

Regionetz is carrying out the work in sections. First, the new district heating pipeline will be installed between Bendelstraße 6 and the corner of Klappergasse and Rennbahn. After that, the construction site will move along Klappergasse from the fountain to Jakobstraße. In the final step, the new pipeline on Jakobstraße will be connected to the existing network.

For technical reasons, the respective work areas must be completely closed off. Access to and from these areas will be limited Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., and may involve waiting times. If the construction trench runs directly in front of a private driveway, private parking may also be affected at times. The local construction management team will notify those affected in a timely manner. All buildings will remain accessible on foot at all times.

The bollards at the corner of Jakobstraße and Johannes-Paul-II-Straße will be opened to allow resident and delivery traffic during the construction work.

Since traffic patterns will change several times during the course of the work, Regionetz asks that you follow the on-site signage and inform suppliers and service providers accordingly. Public parking spaces in the respective work areas will be unavailable during the construction period.

Waste collection will continue as usual. Should it become necessary to set up temporary collection sites, Regionetz will notify residents in a timely manner. Emergency access routes will remain open throughout the entire construction period. Due to the area’s historical significance, the work will also be monitored by archaeologists.
