Regionetz will begin renovating the sewer on Kasinostraße on Monday, October 26, 2026. The work is expected to last until the end of August 2027. During this time, Kasinostraße will be closed to through traffic. Detours will be set up for cars, buses, and cyclists.

The sewer line on Kasinostraße is showing its age: The existing sewer pipes date back to at least 1896 and are now in very poor condition. For this reason, Regionetz is replacing the sewer line along its entire length between Hackländerstraße and Hauptstraße/Burtscheider Straße.

To minimize disruptions for residents and business owners, construction will be carried out in sections. Work will begin on Hackländerstraße and proceed toward Hauptstraße/Burtscheider Straße. Work will first take place between Hackländerstraße and Pfeilstraße, followed by the section between Pfeilstraße and Kapitelstraße. After that, work will continue on the sections up to Bendstraße and onward to just before the intersection of Hauptstraße and Burtscheider Straße.

Each construction zone is approximately 20 meters long. As soon as a section is completed, the roadway will be restored and reopened to local traffic. Pfeilstraße is expected to remain open to traffic throughout the work. Access for emergency vehicles and the fire department will also be ensured at all times.

The construction company hired by Regionetz will have an office on the construction site. Residents and business owners can contact them there if necessary.

Detours for Cars, Buses, and Cyclists
During the closure, car traffic will be rerouted via Burtscheider Straße and the Burtscheider Bridge. Bus traffic will be rerouted via Eynattener Straße, among other routes.

Cyclists heading toward Krugenofen can continue to use the sidewalk, which is already open to traffic. In the opposite direction, a detour will be set up via Hauptstraße and Dammstraße toward Kurbrunnenstraße.

To allow bus traffic on the narrow streets, temporary no-stopping zones will be necessary on Eynattener Straße and Kamper Straße, among other locations. A temporary traffic light is also planned at the corner of Kasinostraße and Eynattener Straße. The city and Regionetz will monitor the traffic situation, especially during the first few weeks after the closure begins, and adjust traffic routing as needed.

Bridge Renovation Starting in October 2027
The sewer work is coordinated with the subsequent renovation of the Burtscheider Bridge, which is scheduled to begin in September 2027. Until then, the roadway on Kasinostraße will be restored so that motor vehicles can use it again during the bridge work.

Once the bridge renovation is complete, Regionetz will replace additional supply lines and expand the district heating network.

On October 15, the City of Aachen and Regionetz hosted an online event to provide information about the upcoming construction work in the area surrounding the main train station.
