Local Politics for the Week of November 9–15
There are five local government meetings scheduled for next week. At one of them, two committees will meet jointly.
Tuesday, November 10
The joint meeting of the Children and Youth Committee and the Committee on Schools and Continuing Education will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber at Aachen City Hall on the Markt. Among other items, the annual report of the Euregional Center for Digital Education, the report on the 2026 language camp programs, and the third progress report on mobile youth work in the Forst and Driescher Hof social district will be presented.
Wednesday, November 11
Also starting at 5:00 p.m., and also in the City Council Chamber at City Hall, the Aachen-Mitte District Council will convene. Three of the topics: the integrated urban development concept “Zukunft Forst”—specifically, the definition of the project area; the implementation resolution for “Making Aachen’s streams visible and accessible in Klappergasse and Rennbahn”; as well as the results of the public participation process, the planning resolution, and the allocation of unbudgeted funds for the redesign of Roermonder Straße in the section from Ponttor to Kohlscheider Straße following the Regionetz project.
The district council will also meet in Aachen-Brand starting at 5 p.m. The meeting will take place in the council chamber of the district office on Paul-Küpper-Platz. Items on the agenda include, for example, a report on the implementation of new digital passenger information systems at bus stops, the collection of fees for the expansion of Dr.-Josef-Lamby-Straße as a traffic-calmed zone, and the 2027 Forest Management Plan.
The third district council meeting taking place that day is the one in Aachen-Laurensberg, which doesn’t start until 5:30 p.m. At the district office on Rathausstraße, the agenda will include, for example, a preliminary mobility concept for the “Sportpark Soers” zoning plan, the Rathausstraße/Schurzelter Mühle zoning plan, and the “11th Amendment to the Ordinance on Street Cleaning and the Collection of Street Cleaning Fees.”
Thursday, November 12
The Planning Committee will meet at 5:00 p.m. in the City Council Chamber at City Hall. It will address four agenda items concerning the site of the former sports field on Rathausstraße in Aachen-Laurensberg: The primary plans for the site are to build apartments and create a new neighborhood square. The committee will also discuss the “Altstadtquartier Büchel Süd” zoning plan and the implementation resolution for the project “Making Aachen’s Streams Visible and Experiential in Klappergasse and Rennbahn.”
