Local politics in the week from May 18 to 24
In the coming week, various committees, district councils and the Aachen City Council as the highest body will be meeting at local political level.
Tuesday, May 19
: A meeting of the Sports Committee will take place at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber at Aachen City Hall. The meeting will include a report on the future prospects of the Alemannia Aachen soccer club, as well as an update on the status of the sports halls and the daycare center on Franzstraße. In addition, the committee will discuss the conversion of the sports field on Breslauer Straße into an artificial turf field and the renovation of the field on Heider-Hof-Weg.
At 6:00 p.m., the Aachen-Laurensberg District Council will convene for a special session in the council chamber of the district office on Rathausstraße. The agenda includes a discussion of the Rathausstraße/Schurzelter Mühle zoning plan. The District Council will also deliberate on the allocation of district discretionary funds and district funds for 2026.
Wednesday, May
20The General and Finance Committee will meet at 4:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber. Topics will range from budgetary risks to the State and Local Infrastructure Financing Act and the use of foundation funds in 2026, as well as the use of augmented reality in the Coronation Hall.
An hour later, at 5 p.m., the Aachen City Council will meet at the same location. The agenda includes discussions on the Education and Action Weeks Against Antisemitism and changes to the rules governing the use and rental of municipal sports facilities and swimming pools. In addition, the 2025 activity report on city partnerships will be presented.
Thursday, May
21: The special meeting of the Aachen-Kornelimünster/Walheim District Council will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the council chamber at the District Office on Schulberg. On the agenda are amendments to the land-use plan for wind energy areas, a citizen’s petition to establish a protected pedestrian crossing on Breiniger Straße at the intersection with Schildchenweg, and a discussion regarding the allocation of district (discretionary) funds for 2026.
