New woodworking station in the Ludwig Forum's art workshop
Sawing, drilling, hammering and filing with professional tools at professional workbenches: this is now possible in the Ludwig Forum's art workshop - thanks to a generous grant from STAWAG.
A mobile woodworking station has been added to the museum's art workshop to expand the sculpting options for children, young people and adults. Working with wood can now be booked as a new creative module for art courses, children's birthday parties, family events and vacation courses.
"Craftsmanship with wood as a natural material is hardly ever part of the everyday lives of many children, young people and adults - we can now offer great opportunities here," says Pia vom Dorp, Head of the Aachen Museum Service.
The height-adjustable workbenches and the associated equipment are integrated in the lower workshop. The workstation is mobile and can therefore also be used in the inner courtyard and park of the Ludwig Forum during the summer months. Wood scraps from the museum carpentry workshop are used in the workshops.
"Supporting educational and cultural offerings is an important concern for us. The work of art education in the city's museums makes a very important contribution to this. The Holzwerkstation also brings the aspect of sustainability to bear - something we very much welcome," says Kirsten Haacke from STAWAG's Corporate Communications department, explaining her company's commitment.
Last week, the fourth-graders at Passtraße Catholic Primary School kicked things off by moving their art lessons to the new workbenches with head teacher Ursula Milde-Reimertz and art teacher Maren Fuchs. The first holes were drilled, small bases for their own artwork were sawn and sanded smooth. STAWAG mascot Else was very impressed.
Children aged 8 and over can try out the new woodworking station in the Easter vacation course "Disc-headed tubular animal". The two-day course takes place on April 9 and 10, from 11 am to 3 pm. There are still places available! Further information at www.museumsdienst-aachen.de
