Walks, visits to the playground, sports activities: The summer days draw people back to the numerous parks and green spaces in Aachen. As temperatures rise, so does the enthusiasm for barbecues. The parks are heavily frequented and many visitors bring barbecues and drinks with them. However, burnt-out disposable barbecues, packaging, disposable crockery and drinks cans and bottles are often left lying around after the barbecue. Anyone who does this is committing an administrative offense. This can be punished with a fine of 55 euros or more.

The Aachen Municipal Services Department asks that visitors properly dispose of any barbecue supplies they bring with them after use and not leave them behind. For this purpose, event trash cans have been placed in the parks, specifically at the designated barbecue areas. If these bins are already full, visitors are asked to dispose of their trash at home. The city’s “Waste Watchers” are also patrolling the green spaces and parks these days to raise awareness among visitors.
