Reception in the White Hall: Farewell Ceremony for Members of the Aachen-Mitte District Council

During a reception held in the White Hall of City Hall on Tuesday, June 30, a farewell was held for the members of the Aachen-Mitte District Council who had left the council during or at the end of the 18th legislative term.

District Mayor Melanie Peñalosa thanked the former members for their many years of service and their dedication to the people of the district: “Local politics doesn’t thrive on grand speeches or headlines. It thrives on people like you, who are willing to take on responsibility. Those of you who have been involved in local politics for decades possess skills that are truly Olympic in nature. You could tell just by the sound of someone clearing their throat who was about to speak—and whether it was going to be a lengthy speech.”

A total of 16 district council members were honored for their service; over the past few years—and in some cases, decades—they have made significant contributions to local politics. Special thanks were extended to the outgoing members, some of whom had served as district mayor and deputy district mayor for several terms.

As a token of appreciation and gratitude, District Mayor Peñalosa presented the former district council members with a small gift.
