Meeting of the citizens' forum
The Citizens' Forum of the City of Aachen will meet next Tuesday, January 27, at 5 p.m. in the Council Chamber of Aachen City Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
The focus is on two citizens' motions in accordance with Section 24 of the NRW municipal code, which address current concerns from urban society. A city-wide participatory campaign to unseal private areas ("Tegelwippen") and proposals for traffic calming on Wilmersdorfer Straße in AC-Haaren, including accompanying measures relating to order and cleanliness, are discussed.
In addition, the Aachen City Council decided on a new agenda item for the meeting of the Citizens' Forum on December 17, 2025. The Citizens' Forum will discuss the further development of the Aachen Citizens' Council, particularly with regard to finding topics and procedural structure. The basis for this is a supplementary proposal for the further development of the Aachen Citizens' Council supported by the Monitoring Committee. A new procedure for identifying topics is planned, in which suitable issues are prepared by the administration and then publicly prioritized by the urban community. The aim is to strengthen the effectiveness of the Citizens' Council and to link the topics dealt with more closely to ongoing political decision-making processes. The annual topic is to be selected transparently via an online vote on the City of Aachen's participation portal.
The Citizens' Forum is a council committee of the City of Aachen and sees itself as a place for dialog between citizens, politicians and the administration. Here, people from Aachen have the opportunity to put forward their concerns, discuss them with members of the council groups and debate them together with the specialist administration. Everyone is cordially invited to attend the meeting, join in the discussion and play an active role. Every opinion is important.
