Local politics in the week from February 9 to 15
There are still three meetings in the local political calendar before the carnival days. But things are already getting jolly: on Wednesday, the traditional "Närrische Ratssitzung" (Foolish Council Meeting) will take place in the Coronation Hall of the town hall.
Tuesday, February 10,
The Housing and Property Committee meets at 5 p.m. in the Council Chamber at Aachen Town Hall. One of the items to be discussed: The budget consultations for 2026 and medium-term planning up to 2029. Also on the agenda: the results of the 2025 public housing subsidy and a status report on the expansion of photovoltaics on municipal roofs.
At the same time, the meeting of the citizens' forum begins in the foyer of the Nadelfabrik on Reichsweg. Among other things, three citizens' motions are discussed. These concern the regulation of vehicle speed on Walheimer Straße, the removal of the Türelüre-Lißje fountain and the installation of a safe crosswalk across Breiniger Straße at Schildchenweg.
Wednesday, February 4,
The Aachen City Council meets at 5 p.m. in the council chamber. One of the items on the agenda is the political participation of people with disabilities. The committees are to be given the opportunity to include members of the Working Group on Disability Assistance as part of political participation until the end of the 19th electoral term. The City Council also deals with various business plans, including those of the adult education center for the year 2026, including medium-term financial and profit planning until 2029. The laying of stumbling blocks by Cologne artist Gunter Demnig is another item on the agenda.
At 6.11 p.m., the jolly "Närrische Ratssitzung" begins in the Coronation Hall. Here, "pratschjecke" council members humorously poke fun at each other, the administration and even the Lord Mayor. In addition to the Oecher Penn, the Prince with his court and the AKiKA youth guard also take part.
