“Aachen Allee” in Naumburg: Sister City Association Participates in the Dedication Ceremony

A delegation from the Association for the Promotion of the Aachen-Naumburg Sister City Partnership traveled to Naumburg for the Cherry Festival and attended the ceremonial dedication of “Aachen Allee.” In addition to “Aachen Allee,” two other avenues were inaugurated in Naumburg’s Bürgergarten. These are dedicated to the other two sister cities, Les Ulis (France) and Armavir (Armenia). The new avenues symbolize the close ties and the enduring friendship between the cities.

Mayor Dr. Michael Ziemons is delighted about the new “Aachen Allee” in Naumburg: “The fact that Naumburg is naming an avenue after Aachen is a visible sign of a deepening friendship that has been sustained for many years by encounters, trust, and mutual appreciation. This honor fills us with great joy and gratitude. It encourages us to continue fostering these partnership-based relationships in the future.”

Naumburg Sister City Partnership:
Since 1985, the Aachen City Council had been working to establish a sister city partnership with a municipality in what was then the GDR. On May 30, 1988, the official partnership agreement was signed in Aachen. With the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the partnership gained new momentum. The partnership agreement was amended in January 1990. In the early days of the inter-German partnership, reconstruction assistance was needed. For example, the City of Aachen provided Naumburg with expert guidance and financial support in establishing a new administrative structure. Companies and organizations from Aachen became involved in a variety of ways in the sister city. Today, the relationship between the two cities is characterized by close and cordial ties between their citizens.
