Mobility Week: Aachen will be back in 2025

  • The European Mobility Week (EMW) begins on Tuesday, September 16 and ends on Monday, September 22.
  • This year's motto is "Mobility for all".
  • The Mobility Week is all about sustainable mobility. A whole range of interesting offers show what has happened in Aachen so far and what is possible. This time, stamps can also be collected for a "mobility challenge".

The city of Aachen is once again inviting people to take part in this year's European Mobility Week (EMW) from September 16 to 22. Once again, everything in Aachen and other European municipalities will revolve around the topic of sustainable mobility. This year's motto is "Mobility for all". Under this motto, many opportunities will be presented to try out new mobility offers or to find out about various transport topics.

The "Aachen Mobility Challenge" is also on offer. All those who take part in the various events can take part in a final prize draw and win one of three overnight trips.

Pedestrian zone around the Büchel

In the EMW, the city is providing information about the idea of transforming the streets around Büchel into a large, continuous pedestrian zone. One highlight is certainly the information event on Tuesday, September 16, 6.30 pm in the "Haus der Neugier".

Mix and Move: EMW test weeks

The city is offering a special offer for the first time this year. Citizens can test a means of transport of their choice free of charge for a week. There is a choice of various e-bikes, including speed pedelecs, e-cars and electric scooters (e-mopeds). Bookings can be made during the EMW by September 19 at the latest via the booking tool of the "Clever Mobil" corporate mobility management campaign. The link is: www.aachen.de/pendler-testwochen. Users enter the access code "EMW25" here. The test week starts on September 22 and ends on October 2 at the latest.

SmartCity demonstrator in action and reading lessons

The SmartCity demonstrator, which primary school children have assembled from Lego elements, is also interesting. The demonstrator will be in action in the city library from September 16 to 19 from 3 to 5 pm. There will be reading sessions for children aged three and over on various days in the city library on Couvenstraße and in the Depot and Haaren branches.

Cycling tours and training

Several cycle tours are also attractive. They have titles such as "Built close to the water" (get to know Aachen's streams and springs), "Platz da" (discover places in Aachen) and "Gipfelstürmer" (explore Aachen's ups and downs). The EMW program also includes the "Schleichwege" tours.

Training courses for children and adults are also on offer. New this year: a training course for all those who want to try out a cargo bike in a safe environment. There are various models and large trailers to choose from.

"Mobility special" on September 21

The city will be represented with an information stand at the "Mobility special" event on Sunday, September 21. City employees will be on hand to provide information about mobility planning and special offers. It will also be supported by ASEAG with an information stand.

EMW-Steps-Challenge

This year, for the first time, the "European Steps Challenge" will take place alongside the EMW. This is a unique initiative that invites citizens across Europe to walk more to promote their well-being and their cities.

The challenge is organized by EIT Urban Mobility in collaboration with Walk15 and Aachen is taking part in the week-long walking challenge. After all, the people of Aachen are known for walking significantly more than people in other cities.

From September 16 to 22, 2025, everyone can take part. Every step counts, whether it's to work, doing sport or in the supermarket. All participants walk in a large virtual team. They show that Aachen is leading the way in pedestrian traffic, even in Europe.

The most active cities will be honored at the end of the European Mobility Week. Registration is already open and participation is very easy: interested parties simply download the Walk15 app. The "European Mobility Week Steps" challenge can be found in the app. Everyone from Aachen who takes part selects Aachen as their city in the app. The Walk15 app can be downloaded via the following link: https://onelink.to/walk15app.
