Local elections: Postal vote application still possible until Friday

Anyone wishing to vote by post can submit a corresponding application until Friday, September 12, 3 p.m., at the electoral office of the City of Aachen, Blücherplatz 43, or at the district office of their city district. You can still apply for postal voting documents online until September 10.

Only in exceptional cases, for example if someone suddenly falls ill, can the application for a postal vote be submitted by 3 p.m. on election Sunday, September 14 at the latest. The election letter with the corresponding ballot papers for the municipal election must be received by the electoral office or the district office by 4 p.m. on Sunday at the latest.

Citizens who have applied for postal voting and have not received a polling card are urged to contact the electoral office. Anyone who can provide credible evidence that the postal voting documents have not been received can collect postal voting documents from the electoral office by telephone by 12 noon on Saturday, September 13 at the latest. After this time, it is no longer possible to obtain a new polling card. A blocking note is entered in the electoral roll so that the voter cannot vote at the polling station on election Sunday.

The upward trend in postal voting continues. By midday on Tuesday, September 9, over 51,000 postal voting documents had already been sent out. In the last local elections in Aachen in 2020, a total of 51,500 people voted by postal ballot. As fewer people are eligible to vote this year, more voters already want to vote by post in percentage terms than in the 2020 local elections.

As always, all information on the election is also available on the Internet at www.aachen.de/wahlen.

Consultation and opening hours of the electoral office on the election weekend

Friday, September 12, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saturday, September 13, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. (by telephone appointment, with credible assurance that the polling card has not been received)

Election Sunday, September 14, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It is generally possible to go to the polls without a polling card

You should take your polling card with you to the polls on Sunday. In principle, you can also vote without the polling card. In this case, you must prove your identity at your polling station with an ID card or passport.

If you have any questions about local elections, our colleagues in the Aachen-Mitte elections department at Blücherplatz 43 in Aachen (phone 432-1600, fax 432-1607, email wahlen@mail.aachen.de) and at all district offices will be happy to help.
