A journey through time: Guided tours through the Elisabethhalle
A short journey back in time to the bathing culture of over 100 years ago: On Saturday, November 29, three guided tours will once again be offered in the historic Elisabethhalle. The tour naturally includes the two swimming halls - built for bathing pleasure for women and men, which was still gender-segregated at the time. A visit to the swimming hall conveys a wonderful feeling of luxurious bathing in Art Nouveau style. This impression is reinforced by the disused bath section with original fittings and furniture.
As you descend into the hidden areas of the technology underneath the swimming pool hall, you get an idea of how complex it was to operate such a swimming pool hall, for which, for example, a coal-fired steam heating system had to be kept in constant operation. And the effort that is still required today with modern technology to provide a well-heated, ventilated and hygienically perfect indoor swimming pool for the public.
There is a guided tour at 8.30 am, 10 am and 11.30 am. A maximum of 20 people can take part in each tour. The route of the tour is not barrier-free and unfortunately not suitable for people with walking difficulties.
Registration is required. It can be done from Monday, November 10, in person or by telephone on 0241 432-5216 at the Elisabethhalle ticket office. The participation fee is 5 euros per person and must be paid within one week for binding registration.
