Warning strike: effects on waste collection

  • The effects on waste collection cannot be calculated.
  • Excess waste can be added to the waste garbage can in standard bags on the next regular disposal day.
  • In addition, the municipal company offers to dispose of residual waste in the containers provided.

The employees of the municipal services have been called out on a warning strike on Thursday and Friday, March 13 and 14. This may have an impact on waste collection. It is not possible to calculate which areas will be affected and to what extent in the coming days. Aachener Stadtbetrieb regrets the inconvenience and asks for your understanding in advance.

In the areas where waste collection is canceled, the containers will probably be emptied on the next regular disposal day.

This means for Thursday, March 13:

  • The weekly residual waste garbage cans will be emptied on Thursday, March 20.
  • The emptying of the 2-weekly residual waste garbage cans and the organic waste garbage cans will be postponed to Thursday, March 27.
  • The 4-weekly residual waste garbage cans and paper garbage cans will be emptied on Thursday, April 10.
  • And for Friday, March 14:
  • The weekly residual waste garbage cans will be emptied on Friday, March 21.
  • The emptying of the 2-weekly residual waste garbage cans and the organic waste garbage cans will be postponed to Friday, March 28.
  • The 4-weekly residual waste garbage cans and paper garbage cans will be emptied on Friday, April 11.

Surplus residual waste
In this exceptional situation, surplus waste, i.e. waste that regularly accumulates during this period, may also be provided for collection in the areas affected by the strike on the specified disposal date. The quantity is limited:
Only as many bags may be put out as the volume of containers (residual waste) on site. Example: For a 60-liter garbage can of residual waste, one bag may be added; for a 240-liter garbage can, up to four bags (four times the volume) may be added. It is not permitted to use the collection situation for household liquidations or similar.

It is important that the excess waste is collected in tear-proof bags, for example standard gray or blue bags with a volume of between 60 and 120 liters. The municipal company asks that the bags are not filled too heavily for health and safety reasons.
Note: Standard household waste bags are not suitable for collecting larger quantities as they can easily tear and/or be damaged by animals.

The bags with the excess waste must also be placed by the residents at the street for collection on the collection day, even for full-service properties. The municipal employees will not collect bags from basements or from garbage can locations that are far from the street.

Excess waste from waste paper
Waste paper can be bundled in cardboard boxes and added to the regular paper collection. For health and safety reasons, the additional bundles of paper should not weigh more than 25 kg. The waste paper must also be placed on the street independently (like sacks). Alternatively, the recycling yards are also available for additional quantities of waste paper.

If waste management capacities are available, containers will be emptied in advance, depending on the number of staff available.
