"Mobile Games Box": hands-on campaign brings fun, games and exercise to Aachen's city center
When the city center becomes a play area: On Saturday, August 9, the City Management of the City of Aachen invites you to the "Mobile Games Box - play and join in!" campaign from 11 am to 5 pm. The hands-on event is aimed in particular at children, young people, families and passers-by.
Fun and games in the courtyard and on the wooden moat
A varied course with games such as hula hoop, cross boules, diabolo and skipping ropes awaits visitors in the courtyard. There will also be plenty of exercise on the Holzgraben, where the city management team will be offering a mobile boules court as well as giant Jenga, 4-in-a-row XL and cornhole. Everyone can use the game stations independently. Anyone who "masters" several stations with a stamp card can win a small prize when they hand in their full card.
Real-life experiment with perspective
The aim of the campaign is to revive the potential of low-threshold leisure, play and exercise facilities in the city center - and to get into conversation with play-loving passers-by. Ideas for the possible further development and permanent installation of mobile play boxes are expressly welcome and can be marked directly on site on a 20 square meter city map.
Participatory activities such as these are part of the city center morning process. City manager and process controller Kyra Pfeil explains: "We take up the wishes and interests of the urban community - for example from the children's forum - and turn them into visible measures. It's also about simply trying things out." City Manager Kai Hennes adds: "The city center of tomorrow needs even more play options for children than it has today. But it's a long process before a classic playground is decided on, planned and built. With the mobile play box, we are creating an alternative and addition to the existing facilities that can be implemented in the short term."
Everyone is welcome to drop by spontaneously and join in. Registration is not required and participation is free of charge.
Further opportunities to get involved
The "Tool-Box for the inner city", a collection of opportunities for Aachen residents to get involved, offers numerous other permanent options for active participation - from disposal funds and the use of vacant properties to dialog formats. The toolbox is available free of charge as a printed product at the Servicecenter Katschhof and at the OecherLab citizens' meeting point or online.
