The pedestrian bridge "Zur Scheidmühle" (B213) at the Eilendorf sewage treatment plant must be permanently closed. In the course of a regular inspection of the wooden bridge, increasing moisture damage and fungal infestation were detected on the two wooden longitudinal beams. The special inspection ordered by the road maintenance and bridge construction department of Aachener Stadtbetrieb in 2023 showed that the load-bearing capacity of one of the two longitudinal beams was severely impaired by rot. To reduce the load, one side of the bridge had to be closed immediately. This meant that pedestrian traffic could initially be maintained for another year. The maximum remaining service life of one year specified by an expert has now been reached, so the structure will be permanently closed for traffic safety reasons.
