Public participation in municipal heat planning
Municipal heat planning develops strategies and plans to achieve a climate-neutral heat supply in Aachen. The result of the heat planning is a recommendation on how the heat supply in the various districts or neighborhoods can be restructured.
The municipal heat planning requires the participation of the public and the so-called public interest bodies - for example, higher-level state and federal authorities, but also associations, local authorities and utilities. The legally stipulated duration for this participation is 30 days and will be implemented in March 2025 - at information events and digitally.
Information events in all districts in March
Local information events are at the heart of citizen participation. A separate event is planned for each district to provide information and exchange ideas with citizens. These are planned on the following days, each from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m:
- Aachen-Mitte: 05.03.2025 at the Talstraße depot, Talstraße 2
- Aachen-Brand: 06.03.2025 in the comprehensive school Brand, Rombachstraße 99
- Aachen-Eilendorf: 11.03.2025 in the GGS Brühlstraße, Brühlstraße 2
- Aachen-Haaren: 12.03.2025 in the GGS Am Haarbach, Haarbachtalstraße 10

Digital: The City of Aachen's participation portal
During this period, the city administration also enables digital feedback on the plans via the participation portal at www.beteiligung.nrw.de/k/1012089.
The City of Aachen's participation portal offers the opportunity to actively participate in administrative and political decision-making processes. This also includes formal participation processes such as municipal heat planning.
All comments and information submitted via the participation portal and at local events are documented and checked for content. Any errors in the report are followed up and corrected accordingly. Information that further completes the report will of course be taken into account. Everything else will be noted and reported on here.
Citizens' consultation hours
The "Climate-neutral Aachen" citizens' consultation hours will also be held regularly at OecherLab, Kapuzinergraben 19D until the end of March. Staff from the Climate and Environment Department will be available to answer questions on climate neutrality, climate protection projects and municipal heat planning.
All dates and times for the information events in the districts and the consultation hours in the OecherLab can also be found at www.aachenklima.de/termine.
