Three new sports boxes in Aachen go into operation

If you want to do sport spontaneously outdoors, you don't always have a ball, racket or training equipment to hand. This is exactly where the three new sports boxes that the city of Aachen has now set up in the city area come in: one at the new youth playground "Zum Kirschbäumchen" and two at the former church "Christus unser Friede" at Driescher Hof. This will further expand the range of exercise options in public spaces. A sports box has also been available on Rütscher Straße for some time now. The sports boxes are a measure from the municipal sports development plan.

Zum Kirschbäumchen
The sports box at Kirschbäumchen is equipped with a basketball, a soccer, table tennis bats and balls. The equipment complements the existing facilities on site and can be used directly on the basketball court, the soccer pitch and the table tennis table.

Driescher Hof
There are two new boxes at Driescher Hof. One box contains play equipment such as a ring toss game, a Velcro ball game and skipping ropes. The second is equipped as a fitness box, including kettlebells, dumbbells, push-up handles and rubber bands. The materials are intended to give users the opportunity to try out sports for which they do not always have the right equipment or do not own it themselves. The fitness box, i.e. the second sports box at Driescher Hof, still requires a little patience: it will only be activated when the planned mobile fitness facility is set up there at the beginning of next year.

The SportBoxes
The new SportBoxes each consist of three separately usable compartments that can be booked individually via an app. All three boxes can be opened using the "SportBox - app and move" app. The sports equipment can be borrowed free of charge and used at the facility. Registration with personal data is required for use. Only then will the door to the sports equipment open. Athletes are also responsible for ensuring that the equipment is fully returned to the box after training and that it is properly locked.

The sports boxes can also be found on the city of Aachen's sports portal. In addition to information on sports development, there is also an overview of the numerous sports facilities in public spaces.
