Polling assistants can now register online
With immediate effect, a new online service of the City of Aachen enables potential election helpers to register via a form in the city's service portal. The new service, which the Digital Administration and IT Control Department has implemented together with the Elections Department as part of the City of Aachen's digitalization strategy, is designed to facilitate the recruitment of election workers for the upcoming elections.
Who can use the service
The service is available to all persons aged 16 and over with a German ID card or European eID card in the service portal of the City of Aachen who wish to support the City of Aachen in the local elections in September. The prerequisite for using the online service is authentication using the bundID with name and password.
The city of Aachen is looking for between 2,200 and 2,300 electoral assistants for upcoming elections. Anyone who meets the requirements can become a poll worker for this year's local elections. The online form asks whether you would like to work in the local elections on September 14 and/or in a possible run-off election on September 28. You can also indicate whether you would prefer to work in a postal or polling station and what role you would like to play on the electoral board. There are also validation rules so that you cannot continue if one of the conditions is not met.
By setting up the online form, the administration is implementing a council motion submitted by the Bündnis 90 Die Grünen and SPD parliamentary groups in February of this year.
