Fireworks ban in Aachen
To protect the historic buildings, fireworks are once again banned in Aachen's city center on New Year's Eve this year. The city issued a general decree banning fireworks back in November. This ban applies to the carrying and setting off of fireworks that can reach a height of more than one meter on and within the Grabenring and Theaterplatz.
The ban on setting off fireworks applies from midnight on 31 December 2024 until midnight on 1 January 2025. Fireworks may not be carried in the aforementioned area from 6 p.m. on December 31, 2024 until midnight on January 1, 2025. The general decree can be found at aachen.de/ohnefeuerwerk.
Violation of the ban can be punished with a fine of up to 1,000 euros.
In the immediate vicinity of churches, hospitals, children's and old people's homes and particularly fire-sensitive buildings or facilities, the burning of pyrotechnic objects is generally prohibited in accordance with Section 23 (1) of the First Ordinance to the Explosives Act. This also applies to all areas outside the trench ring. This means that fireworks may only be set off to a limited extent in Kornelimünster or Burtscheid, for example.
