"A strong team for our city" is looking for reinforcement
Life in our city is lively, diverse and dynamic. There is always something going on in Aachen. Where many people come together, clear rules are needed to ensure that things run smoothly. The Department of Safety and Order works with dedicated colleagues to ensure that these rules are adhered to. To this end, the department is looking for reinforcements in the public order and security service (OSD) and for the monitoring of stationary traffic. We are looking for assertive people with excellent communication and teamwork skills who can keep a cool head even in difficult situations. A strong team for our city.
The job advertisements and requirements can be found on the city's career portal at https://karriere.aachen.de/sicherheit-ordnung/. Anyone wishing to join the OSD must have a school-leaving certificate and completed vocational training and should be a keen sportsman. The selection process starts with a sports test, followed by a written test and an interview. Applicants for the monitoring of stationary traffic should prepare for an interview.
The tasks that applicants can look forward to are varied. No two days are the same. At OSD, they monitor public spaces, intervene in the event of danger and resolve conflicts. They protect the quality of life of Aachen's residents by ensuring that everyone in Aachen complies with the relevant regulations. This means, for example, that aggressive begging, littering, public nuisance, violations of the Youth Protection Act and noise pollution are consistently punished. They are always on hand at the numerous major events in the city.
Last but not least, close cooperation with the police also plays an important role in the early detection of dangers. This is characterized in particular by joint patrols.
The colleagues who monitor stationary traffic are also involved in much more than just handing out parking tickets: they check parking violations, monitor parking zones, point out environmental and loading zone rules and also tow away vehicles in the event of corresponding obstructions. In this way, they not only ensure the free movement of all road users, but also of buses, emergency vehicles and refuse collection services in particular. They are also on hand to provide visitors with advice and information at major events.
The colleagues from the department are visibly out and about on the paths, squares and streets of this city. And this week, they can also be seen on billboards and the city's social media channels to find motivated colleagues for "A strong team for our city".
