Occasion and goal
During site inspections by Aachener Stadtbetrieb (E 18) and Regionetz GmbH, it was found that the road surface can no longer be repaired and that the rainwater sewer pipe is coming to the surface in places where it has been destroyed by traffic loads.
The measure envisages that after the sewer construction work by Regionetz, the final expansion of Raerener Straße in the area of house numbers 35 to 49 will take place.
Condition
The cul-de-sac is in the condition of a construction road. After the junction area, it is only 2.60 m wide instead of at least 3.50 m over a length of approx. 20 meters. The asphalt surface is made up of numerous broken patches, is extensively interspersed with network cracks and has frost heave in many places.
Planning
The footpath crossing at the junction will be constructed with a rounded kerb and will therefore remain at a relatively low level, which will benefit the already steep longitudinal gradient in the roadway and the planned crossing point. The cul-de-sac will be laid out as a play street at the same level. The first section (approx. 20 m) will be constructed using asphalt due to the predominantly large longitudinal gradient and the remaining section will be paved.
Taking into account the tree protection of a large, vital lime tree in the junction area, the current extremely narrow cross-section of 2.60 m of the carriageway in the first section will only be widened to the required minimum dimension of 3.50 m. In this section, drainage will remain via the side ditch. Drainage via the side ditch will be retained in this section. Subsequently, the cross-section will be widened to the south-eastern property boundary.
On the other side of the mixed traffic area, the edge of the road runs in a straight line along the existing hedge until the traffic area bends, which means that the hedge is retained. On this side, the traffic area is bordered by L-shaped stones that stabilize the small slope to the adjacent private property. Further along, the traffic area makes full use of the public space.

The Raerener Straße (including dependent branch road) in the section from Raafstraße to Monschauer Straße is an outer area road for which no contributions can be levied in accordance with the provisions of the German Building Code (BauGB) in conjunction with the municipal statutes for levying development contributions.
