Current

On August 28, 2024, the Aachen-Kornelimünster/Walheim district council passed the planning and implementation resolution for the final expansion of Raerener Straße. Based on the approved draft planning, the implementation planning was finalized, taking into account the drainage planned by Regionetz GmbH. Following a joint invitation to tender with Regionetz, the final expansion of the cul-de-sac will begin at the start of June 2025.

Occasion and goal

During site inspections by Aachener Stadtbetrieb (E 18) and Regionetz GmbH, it was found that the road surface can no longer be repaired and that the rainwater sewer pipe is coming to the surface in places where it has been destroyed by traffic loads.

The measure envisages that after the sewer construction work by Regionetz, the final expansion of Raerener Straße in the area of house numbers 35 to 49 will take place.

Condition

The cul-de-sac is in the condition of a construction road. After the junction area, it is only 2.60 m wide instead of at least 3.50 m over a length of approx. 20 meters. The asphalt surface is made up of numerous broken patches, is extensively interspersed with network cracks and has frost heave in many places.

Planning

The final section of Raerener Straße 35-49 will be built at the same level. After the junction area, the road surface will be paved with asphalt for the first 20 meters, as the road has a steep gradient (approx. 12%) in this section. The road will then be paved in accordance with the Aachen standard for residential roads.

Taking into account the tree protection of a large, vital lime tree in the junction area, the current extremely narrow cross-section of 2.60 m of the carriageway in the first section will only be widened to the required minimum dimension of 3.50 m. In this section, drainage will remain via the side ditch. Drainage via the side ditch will be retained in this section. Subsequently, the cross-section will be widened to the south-eastern property boundary.

On the other side, the edge of the traffic area runs straight through to the bend in the road. On this side, the higher private area will be secured against slipping towards the roadway with L-shaped stones. In the further course, the traffic area makes full use of the public space. This results in widths of up to 7.60 m.

The Raerener Straße (including dependent branch road) in the section from Raafstraße to Monschauer Straße is an outer area road for which no contributions can be levied in accordance with the provisions of the German Building Code (BauGB) in conjunction with the municipal statutes for levying development contributions.
