Map

Occasion and goal

Lintertstraße is part of the Brand priority cycle route. It is the third route of the planned cycle priority network to be implemented. Cycling facilities are to be upgraded between Adenauerallee and Schönforststraße.

Today's situation

Linterstraße is a classified road (district road K 35) with two lanes. It has a cross-sectional load of around 11,400 vehicles at the Lintertstr./Schönforststr. junction. It also has an important connecting function between Aachen-Mitte and the southern districts to Brand etc. With the exception of a section along the municipal Catholic elementary school Forster Linde, the speed limit is 50 km/h.

In both directions, the sidewalk is open to cyclists, with a width of approx. 2.50 m inbound and approx. 3.00 m outbound. There are approx. 92 parking spaces along Linterstraße in the section between Adenauerallee and Schönforststraße (approx. 39 on the northern and 53 on the southern side of the street). In the same section, there are 43 large linden trees worthy of protection between the parking spaces on the northern side of the road. The trees planted on one side of the street are a particular feature of the streetscape.
City bus route 16 runs on Lintertstraße every half hour.

Planning

The current planning status, which will be implemented, has developed from the political consultation on various options and the participation of citizens in the planning process. This includes the following key points:

  • Dual cycle traffic routing between Adenauerallee and Auf dem PlueChanged lane allocation at the Altstraße/Adenauerallee/Lintertstraße junction and marking of protective lanes as well as the creation of a new cycle connection from Adenauerallee to Rosenweg
  • Raising the carriageway at all junctions in Lintertstrasse to calm traffic and create a barrier-free crossing point for pedestrians
  • Creation of a protective cycle lane between Adenauerallee and Schönforststraße and modification of the lane layout in front of the Schönforststraße junction as well as reduction of the traffic light system there to a pedestrian demand traffic light in combination with the guidance of left-turning cycle traffic from Lintertstraße in the direction of Schönforststraße or Sittarder Straße
  • Barrier-free expansion of bus stops:
  • Adenauerallee in the direction of Trierer Straße
  • Staudenweg in both directions including central island to calm traffic
  • Forster Linde heading out of town
  • Full development of the area in front of houses no. 58 to 72 with level development including the creation of car and bike sharing facilities and special parking spaces for e-charging and people with disabilities
  • Construction of a 3.0 m wide cycle path on the north-eastern side of the road between Sittarder Straße and Auf dem Plue
  • Adaptation/new construction of the ancillary facilities on both sides between Schönforststraße and Sittarder Straße or elementary school.
