The age of this group of trees cannot be determined exactly. It lines a path within the cemetery. The tall trees give the cemetery a beautiful frame which, together with the cemetery wall, forms a peaceful overall ensemble. Trees planted in a circle often indicate special activities or rituals at these locations. This is why this group of trees is also known as the homage throne. It is said that ceremonies were held here to swear allegiance to the new abbot of Kornelimünster Abbey. Each newly elected abbot - who was also the sovereign - was sworn to loyalty and obedience, and the abbot vowed to respect the rights of the people. The last ceremony before the abbey was dissolved took place here on 09.09.1756 for Abbot Matthias Ludwig von Plettenberg-Engstfeld.
