The next elections will take place on September 14, 2025. These are the local elections.Für einige unserer Mitbürger*innen kommt die Wahl des Integrationsrates hinzu.
In the city of Aachen, the post of Lord Mayor and a newly composed city council are at stake, which decides on all important issues. Majorities will also be determined in the city's seven district councils. And in the StädteRegion, to which the City of Aachen belongs along with a number of other municipalities, the StädteRegionstag will be elected.
Finally, there is the Integration Council, a body that represents the interests of people who have foreign roots and live here in Aachen.
The Lord Mayor is determined by a majority vote. If no candidate receives more than half of the valid votes in the first ballot, a run-off election will be held. Any necessary run-off elections for chief administrative officers will be held on September 28, 2025.
Eligible to vote in local elections in NRW are Germans and citizens of the other 26 EU member states who have reached the age of 16 on election day, have lived in the electoral area since at least the 16th day before the election or are otherwise ordinarily resident there and are not excluded from the right to vote. Anyone wishing to vote for district representation in an independent city must be eligible to vote for the council in the district in question.
