How Can Aachen Become Cleaner? Citizens’ Council Develops 10 Recommendations
The topic for this year’s Citizens’ Assembly had been selected beforehand by the residents of Aachen through a public vote. The discussion focused not only on how to better prevent and dispose of waste, but also on how to effectively combine civic engagement, public education, and waste management.
For their deliberations, the members of the Citizens’ Council received a variety of information and expert assessments. Experts presented their perspectives on the topic of cleanliness in public spaces and were available to answer questions. The participants also shared their own experiences and viewpoints, discussed different approaches, and worked together to develop concrete proposals based on these discussions.
This consultation process has resulted in ten recommendations. Together, they form the citizens’ report, which is now being finalized in collaboration with the participants.
Presentation of the Citizens' Report on November 24
The ten recommendations will be presented to the public on Tuesday, November 24, 2026, at a meeting of the Citizens’ Forum in the council chamber of Aachen City Hall. There, the members of the Citizens’ Council will present the results of their collaborative work and engage in dialogue with policymakers, city officials, and the public.
Following the public presentation, the Citizens’ Council’s recommendations will be discussed by the Aachen City Council in December and used to guide further efforts toward a clean and livable Aachen.
