The Aachen SeptemberSpecial impresses with its unique atmosphere and great concerts in a unique setting. Every year in September, the multi-day festival delights with a diverse mix of international, national and local artists. The concerts take place in the heart of Aachen's old town. The Ferris wheel on the Katschhof, between the cathedral and the town hall, is of course a must.

Aachen is the home of important prizes and awards. Important personalities and institutions that stand for commitment, innovation and the European spirit are honored here. The International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen is considered one of the most important European prizes. Since 1950, it has been awarded to individuals and institutions who have rendered outstanding services to the unification of Europe. Previous winners of the Charlemagne Prize include Konrad Adenauer, Angela Merkel, Pope Francis, Volodymyr Selensky and the Ukrainian people. The prize is awarded every year on Ascension Day as part of a festive ceremony in the Coronation Hall in Aachen City Hall.
