The Insurance Office of the City of Aachen would like to draw attention to an important change in the law effective January 1, 2027, that affects pensioners: Until now, individuals who are still employed and already receiving an old-age pension have been entitled to sick pay after their paid sick leave ends if they are receiving a partial pension of no more than 99.99 percent.

Under the new legal provision in Section 50 of SGB V, starting in 2027, eligibility for sick pay will be excluded if the old-age pension received amounts to more than two-thirds of the full pension. This means that receiving a partial old-age pension of 99.99 percent—as many employed old-age pensioners have chosen to do—will result in the loss of entitlement to sick pay. As of January 1, 2027, only those receiving a partial old-age pension of no more than two-thirds—that is, 66.66 percent—will be eligible for sick pay.

There is no grandfather clause. The change affects all retirement pensioners.
