Plenty of green space and a stream: Information evening on the new Klappergasse/Rennbahn on October 6

More trees, three times as many green spaces, a spacious playground for children, and—above all—open-flowing water from the Paubach: These features will make Klappergasse and Rennbahn stand out in the future and create a new gathering place for young and old alike right in the heart of the city. Before the city can implement the plan, Regionetz will begin expanding the district heating network in the area in September 2026. At the same time, the city administration’s planning efforts are in full swing. Policymakers are expected to make the final construction decision in a few months so that Klappergasse and Rennbahn can be redesigned following the completion of the civil engineering work.

Against this backdrop, the City of Aachen invites you to an informational event on Tuesday, October 6, at 6:00 p.m., at St. Paul’s Church, Jakobstraße 143–145. Experts will explain the plans in detail, outline the next steps, and be available to answer questions. Since space is limited, the city administration asks that you register in advance by email at klappergasse-rennbahn@mail.aachen.de or by mail to the City of Aachen, FB61/500, Lagerhausstraße 20, 52064 Aachen.

The redevelopment of Klappergasse and Rennbahn, with the freely flowing Pauwasser as its central element, is being funded by the federal government. It is part of the city’s “Making Aachen’s Streams Visible and Experiential” planning initiative led by the Department of Urban Planning and Development (FB 61). The goal is to make Aachen climate-resilient. FB 61 is working on this in collaboration with other participating departments and partners. At the same time, transportation and infrastructure issues, as well as other key elements of the city center, are being developed with an eye toward the future. Work is expected to begin in the fall of 2027, following the completion of the Regionetz project.
