The Pomegranate

The production explores the feeling of uncertainty in a world that has become alien to us. We have defined concepts and established systems, and we wonder whether they are still valid today.

A figure makes its way through this uncertain world: spaces made of coarse felt—a fabric of organic interconnections. Within it, the figure gropes for footing, caught between what has been lost and what is emerging anew.

Poems by the poets Inger Christensen and Tomasz Rózycki provided inspiration for the visual metaphors in the production as well as for the few spoken text passages.

“The
Nightingale”
Based on a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen

The emperor owns everything. But what about the nightingale that everyone in the world knows, yet no one at court—except for the little kitchen maid? She hears it every evening in the woods on her way home. The emperor has the nightingale brought to the castle.

Everyone at court is amazed by the little gray bird that can sing so beautifully. But when the emperor is given an artificial bird that shines and sparkles magnificently, the nightingale is forgotten. Only the little kitchen maid still looks out the window for her—especially when the emperor falls ill and there is no one there to help him.

A story about the outdoors and indoors—and the freedom in between—for everyone ages 5 and up
