European Mobility Week: Aachen Offers a Diverse Program of Events

The city of Aachen is once again hosting European Mobility Week (EMW) this year, from September 16 to 22. Once again, the focus in Aachen and other European cities will be on sustainable mobility. This year’s theme is “Intergenerational Mobility,” which complements the EMW’s general slogan, “Mix and Move! – Climate-Friendly Mobility.”

The city and various partners have put together a diverse program of trial activities, classes, guided tours, and lectures that offers something for all generations. In addition to the long-standing collaboration with the city library and the adult education center, this year’s program features a special contribution from the Apollo Cinema, which is contributing a film series to the program for the first time. Films will be shown daily that explore the theme of mobility in a variety of ways.

The Step Challenge, which was well received last year, is once again part of this year’s EMW program. With the active support of many people from Aachen, we can secure a good placing in this competition, just as we did last year.

Another new addition to the program is the contribution from the city archives. The “Archival Item of the Month” focuses on the trolleybus system that once operated in Aachen.

Anyone who would like to test a mode of transportation can register for the EMW Test Weeks in the run-up to the EMW through September 14.

EMW kicks off on September 16 at 3:30 p.m. with a workshop for children at the city library. The rest of the EMW program is packed with transportation-related topics. For example, the Aachen Transport Authority (AVV) will provide information on the Regiotram, the new Naveo app, and the eezy fare on the AVV network.

Children can still submit their entries for the “Your Perfect Bus” drawing contest at the city library until shortly before the drawing on September 20. To wrap up Mobility Week on September 22, there will be a talk by Regina Poth on sustainable travel for seniors, a walk focusing on accessibility, and a bike tour showcasing Aachen’s bike-sharing options.

The complete program, including all events, can be found on the following website: www.aachen.de/emw.

And one more tip to wrap
things up: If you’re unable to participate in European Mobility Week with your own initiative this year, you can already mark the dates on your calendar for next year. European Mobility Week always takes place from September 16 to 22, and all stakeholders are cordially invited to participate in the event. So, after EMW is always before EMW.
