An Important Step for Cell Phone Coverage: Construction of the New Cell Tower in Orsbach Has Begun
Construction has begun on a new cell tower in Orsbach. The new facility is intended to close the existing coverage gap in the northwest of Aachen, near the Dutch border, and thereby improve cell service in this previously underserved area. The new tower is intended for use by multiple mobile network operators in the future. This will create a shared infrastructure that enables various mobile networks to provide coverage to the previously underserved area.
In the past, there have been repeated reports from residents regarding inadequate cell phone coverage in the Orsbach area and near the Dutch border there. The construction of the new cell tower and the prospect of improved cell phone coverage it brings have already been well received in discussions with local residents.
The foundation slab for the new radio tower has already been completed. Over the coming months, construction of the facility will continue, and preparations will be made for the installation of the technical infrastructure.
“After a lengthy planning and preparation phase, it is very gratifying that construction work has now begun. The construction of this facility marks an important step toward achieving comprehensive cellular coverage throughout the Aachen metropolitan area,” says Lisa Ebach, the City of Aachen’s cellular communications coordinator.
According to the Tower Company, which has been contracted to construct the tower, the radio tower is scheduled to be completed by mid-December 2026. Following that, the antenna infrastructure will be installed by the mobile network operators. Based on current plans, mobile service is expected to begin in February or March 2027.
