Local Politics for the Week of October 12–18
Five local government meetings will take place next week. Two scheduled meetings—the Sports Committee and the Committee on Equal Opportunity and Integration—have been canceled.
Tuesday, October 13
The Committee on the Environment and Climate Protection will meet this time starting at 5:30 p.m. in the meeting room of Aachen City Hall on the Markt. The public portion of the meeting will address the following topics: “Progress Report from the Aachen Fairtrade Steering Group,” “Regional Pact for Flood Protection in the Southern Meuse River Basin—Current Status,” and “Benefits of the EU Mission ‘100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities’ for Aachen.”
Wednesday, October 14
At a rather unusual time—4:15 p.m.—the Housing and Real Estate Committee is convening for a special meeting in the conference room of Haus Löwenstein am Markt; however, there are no items on the agenda open to the public.
The Aachen City Council meeting begins at 5:00 p.m., also at City Hall. Three of the topics are “Aachen: Prepared and Capable of Action—Strategic Preparation of the City of Aachen for Civil Defense Tasks,” the principles of budget consolidation and the next steps, and the statement to the Cologne District Government regarding the expansion of the Dr. Leo Löwenstein Barracks.
Thursday, October 15
A progress report on the “Haus der Neugier,” a progress report and initial analyses of the cultural monitoring initiative in the city’s museums, the theater, and the music department, as well as the application for funding from the federal program “Demokratie leben!” for the third funding phase (2025–2032) are among the items on the agenda for the Culture, Theater, and Adult Education (VHS) Operations Committee. The meeting begins at 5:00 p.m. in Room 207 of the administrative building on Mozartstraße.
At the same time, the Planning Committee will also meet at 5:00 p.m. In the council chamber of City Hall on the Markt, for example, the historic “In den Heimgärten” housing development will be presented, and the expansion and new construction projects for the elementary schools in Richterich and on Beeckstraße will be discussed.
