The 23rd Aachen Coronation Banquet will take place on October 23 in the Coronation Hall of Aachen City Hall. The keynote speaker for the evening will be Dr. Karsten Wildberger, Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and State Modernization. As part of the event, the first images from the digital lab will be on display; the augmented reality application for the Coronation Hall is currently being developed there.
The Aachen Coronation Banquet has traditionally been held in October for many years in the Coronation Hall of Aachen City Hall. This year is no exception. In memory of the sumptuous banquet held at the coronation of Charles V in 1520, the Aachen City Hall Association, together with the Hotel Quellenhof and with financial support from trusted sponsors, developed a modern and contemporary Coronation Banquet over 20 years ago. The idea: to enjoy culinary delights of the highest caliber while simultaneously supporting the Aachen City Hall Association.
The evening begins around 6 p.m. with a champagne reception in the White Hall and the Werkmeister-Gericht. Afterward, a sumptuous four-course meal will be served in the Coronation Hall. The menu features Eifel smoked char with apple-cucumber tartare, horseradish, and herb oil, or king oyster mushrooms with cauliflower cream, apple, and Monschau mustard; followed by a light potato soup or a celery foam soup; and for the main course, either veal cheeks with potato and black salsify purée, parsnips, and chervil, or—as a vegetarian option — cauliflower and pointed cabbage with gochujang and sesame. The meal is topped off with Liège waffles with vanilla cream and cinnamon-glazed cherries. The evening concludes—as has now become a cherished tradition—with the late-night café starting at 11 p.m., once again in the lower rooms.
However, the Coronation Banquet is known not only for its culinary delights in an extraordinary setting, but also for its first-class entertainment program. Before and after the keynote address, guests can look forward to musical performances. As always, the performances will be of the highest caliber, featuring award winners from the German Music Life Foundation—this year, Myriam Navarri (oboe) and Hanna Schwalbe (piano). They will perform works by André Jolivet, Robert Schumann, and Alyssa Morris.
The City Hall Association expects around 200 guests to attend this year’s coronation banquet. Anyone interested in attending on October 23 can contact the city’s protocol department at kroenungsmahl@mail.aachen.de. You can also register directly online at www.rathausverein-aachen.de/kroenungsmahl. The participation fee for the evening is 125 euros per person. In addition, a donation of at least 150 euros per person is requested for the benefit of the Aachen City Hall Association (Rathausverein Aachen e.V.). These donations help the association preserve City Hall as a historic monument.
