How Can Aachen Become Cleaner? Citizens’ Council Develops 10 Recommendations
How can Aachen become and remain cleaner? The 4th Aachen Citizens’ Council spent four Saturdays in September thoroughly examining this question. The result: ten concrete recommendations, which are now available as a citizens’ report. The focus is on how the city administration and citizens can work together to promote greater cleanliness in public spaces.
The topic had previously been selected by the residents of Aachen through a public vote. The focus was not only on how to better prevent and dispose of waste, but also on how to effectively combine civic engagement, public education, and waste management.
For their deliberations, the members of the Citizens’ Council received a variety of information and expert assessments. Experts presented their perspectives on the issue of cleanliness in public spaces and were available to answer questions. The participants also shared their own experiences and viewpoints, discussed different approaches, and jointly developed concrete proposals based on these discussions. The result of this deliberative process is ten recommendations. These form the Citizens’ Report, which is now being finalized together with the participants.
Presentation and Discussion of the Citizens’ Report
The ten recommendations will be presented to the public on November 24 during a meeting of the Citizens’ Forum in the council chamber of Aachen City Hall. There, the members of the Citizens’ Council will present the results of their collaborative work and engage in dialogue with policymakers, city officials, and the public.
Following the public presentation, the Citizens’ Council’s recommendations will be discussed by the Aachen City Council in December and used to guide further efforts toward a clean and livable Aachen.
